Locals Crew South Africa Kite Camp
The Destination
South Africa is an ideal destination for Kite Camps and in particular the Cape Town area is a fair compromise between the comfort of Western life and the powerful nature typical of the African continent. Come and discover the Locals Crew South Africa Kite Camp and join us on our next trip!

If someone asked me: Is Cape Town a destination for athletes, tourists, families or singles? Well my answer would be: it’s a half for all tastes and needs! This destination is easily reachable with scheduled flights from Rome with one stopover, the journey duration is approximately 12/13 hours with approximately 1.5h of stopover; just one hour of time difference will save you from the annoying symptoms of jet-leg.
Let’s go in order, we said that there are 2 fundamental aspects that make the Cape Peninsula a complete tourist destination: the city of Cape Town and the force of nature. The two elements of our Locals Crew South Africa Kite Camp!
Cape Town
Cape Town is a city of more than 4 million inhabitants that develops around Table Mountain, approximately 1100m high, which characterizes the city’s Sky Line due to its flattened shape and the cloud cap on the top; you can visit it with a comfortable and modern cable car that will quickly take you to the top from which you can admire the city from above, you can take a walk along the paths to discover a truly particular micro habitat. You can also go up and down from the top along steep mountain paths, allow at least three hours to go up and two to go down, not recommended if you are not trained and well equipped for trekking.

Another attraction of Cape Town is Water Front, an immense urban area that was born from the redevelopment of the ancient port. Huge 19th century warehouses have been used as shopping centres, restaurants and green areas where artists of all kinds perform in turn throughout the day. There is even a very well-kept aquarium ideal to visit with children, a Ferris wheel, hotels, bars, local craft shops.
Old Biscuit Mill
The Old Biscuit Mill is a must-see every Saturday morning, a craft fair where local artists display their work of all genres. Also interesting is the vast selection of food from all over the world cooked freshly for you at modest prices.

The Old Biscuit Mill

The nightlife in Cape Town is vibrant and filled with venues to have a drink, dance, and meet people from all over the world. Entrance is often selective, so it is recommended to wear closed shoes and long pants.
For Kitesurfing
The best time is during the Southern Hemisphere summer from November to March, which corresponds to our winter.
Conditions can be challenging, with winds often reaching 30 knots or even more at times. Many athletes come to South Africa to practice Big Air; in fact, every year at the beginning of February, the famous competition King Of the Air sponsored by Red Bull takes place.
Many others visit this area for the waves, which are usually not huge but with an average of 2/3 meters and a period of 12/18 seconds, they provide an excellent training ground to improve one’s skills. We recommend the Cape Town area for intermediate to advanced riders, while for beginners or entry-level we suggest the spot at Shark Beach, a lagoon with calm water located in Langebaan, about 90 km north. Although the name may not sound reassuring, this vast white sand lagoon with flat, shallow water is ideal for learning and progressing quickly. However, be cautious as the spot can become very crowded depending on the tide.

Spot
All the spots in Cape Town are easily accessible thanks to wide and well-paved roads that line the beach and ample parking; the spots we recommend are:
- Sunset: offshore wind, small but clean waves;
- Dolphin beach: vento side off-shore onda media surfabile;

Cape of Good Hope
After approximately 1.5 hours by car, you reach the spots of the Cape of Good Hope, recommended for more experienced riders in particular:
- Witsand: wind side with waves averaging 3 meters.
- Platboom Beach: it’s a very windy spot with side winds and waves that average around 3m; be careful of the rocks. To reach this spot, you need to access the national park of the Cape of Good Hope, the southernmost point of the African continent, by paying approximately €15, but the price is definitely worth it to surf in such a stunning spot.
During the Locals Crew South Africa Kite Camp, we also managed to visit the picturesque beach of Muizenberg with its colorful beach huts and the heavily crowded surfers. A stop at Simon’s Town and its famous penguin beach was also a must.

In the rare event of a windless day, in addition to surfing, you can visit the wine cellars of Stellenbosh, just 1 hour from Cape Town. The local food is mostly based on really good meat, and fresh grilled vegetables. The Braai, the typical South African BBQ is a true institution.
The Locals Crew South Africa Kite Camp is organized in houses with 8/10 beds, featuring a pool, Braai, and a fully equipped kitchen to enjoy a vacation while socializing and sharing moments together. We move around by car, one for every 2-3 people for comfortable transport, and we offer rental services, as well as basic and advanced lessons for all levels.
